Dressing Like a Poem: Why Fashion Should Make You Feel Something
In a world obsessed with aesthetics, algorithms, and curated grids, it’s easy to forget that fashion didn’t begin as a trend—it began as a feeling.
Before the runway shows and retail seasons, before the rules and “must-have” lists, clothing was always personal. It was armor, it was identity, it was a whisper to the world that said, “This is who I am before you even ask.”
And if we let it—fashion can still be a kind of poetry.
✨ Style That Speaks, Not Sells
Poetry doesn’t beg for approval. It doesn’t follow formulas.
It connects.
It evokes.
It moves you.
So why shouldn’t getting dressed feel the same?
When I put together a look—whether it’s a wire-wrapped crown, a diaphanous layered skirt, or a perfectly fitted blazer—I’m not thinking, Will this trend?
I’m asking:
What emotion does this bring forward?
What version of me does this outfit give permission to step into?
If this outfit were a stanza, what would it say?
We’ve been told fashion is frivolous, superficial, material. But I believe the opposite:
When done intentionally, fashion is soul work.
🖋️ The Poetics of Texture, Shape, and Color
Poetry isn’t always words. Sometimes it’s:
The texture of velvet brushing your skin
The weight of a chain draped across your collarbone
The volume of tulle that makes your body feel like breath and softness instead of edges and lines
A crown—not to be seen, but to remind yourself of something powerful inside
Fashion is a multi-sensory experience. It holds memory. Energy. Grief. Joy. Transformation.
A silk robe might remind you of your grandmother. A leather jacket might remind you that you're still wild. A sheer dress might scare you—in a way that means you should probably wear it.
💫 There Are No Wrong Words in a Poem—And No Wrong Way to Get Dressed
If fashion is a poem, then you are the pen.
And the only thing that matters is how you feel when you read it back.
Did you dress to be perceived? Or to be felt?
Did you throw on jeans because they’re “normal”? Or did you wear that velvet skirt because you needed to feel softness today, even if you had nowhere “special” to be?
Every day, you have the chance to dress like a love letter to yourself.
Or a protest.
Or a rebirth.
Or a memory.
Or a spell.
💖 So, How Do You Dress Like a Poem?
Start with how you feel—or want to feel
Choose pieces that support that emotion, not suppress it
Let go of “rules” and reach for resonance
Try something you “used to love but haven’t worn in years”
Add one piece that feels ceremonial, even if no one else understands why
And if you need help finding those pieces—or writing that poem—I’m here to help you create it.
Because style isn’t about being seen by the world. It’s about recognizing yourself in the mirror and finally saying, “There you are.”
